2009 Long Course Nationals Come to Indy

Just over 4 months away!! The 2009 Long Course Nationals in Indy, August 6-10, 2009. Start training and planning for it now. Because of the short distance to Indianapolis from just about anywhere in Kentucky, I expect we will have a large turnout from SKY. While the entry forms are not yet available, you can find time standards, order of events, and list of hotels at 2009 Long Course Nationals. Don't be left out!

Dues at U of L's Ralph Wright Natatorium

There seems to be some confusion about thosewho train at both U of L's Ralph Wright Natatorium and MTMAC. Please pay the monthly team fees at Ralph Wright and don’t worry about the monthly team fees at MTMAC. Paying the one time entry at Ralph Wright does not help the efforts of Mark Gill and the other Masters coaches at U of L. Those that train at both pools and have a monthly or yearly pass at MTMAC will get you in the door at MTMAC anyway. If not, we’ll work something out. We need to have higher profile at U of L and the support of your dues.

Mester Competes in Arizona Open Water

Tom Mester entered the 4000 yard Open Water (lake) swim while in Arizona. This event, part of a summer series, was held at beautiful Lake Saguaro, about 40 minutes east of Scottsdale. The venue was at the end of the lake where the canyon cliffs rise hundreds of feet from the shoreline. Spectacular! Water temp at 67-70 degrees with air temp at 80+ made for a refreshing morning with nature. Mark Gill, a local Arizona partner, puts on this series, so check it out if heading to the Phoenix area. More information can be found at www.dcbadventures.com.

Long time Swim Louisville Master swimmer (mornings mostly), Beth Fahey and her husband are new proud parents of baby Anna. Word is that Anna, mom, and dad are doing fine. There have been no sightings of Beth at the pool yet!

Fitness Events

There are two on-going fitness event offered by USMS. The 2009 Go The Distance is a comprehensive and fun way to track your yardage for the entire year or any part of it. There is no entry fee. Awards are offered at a cost, if desired. See entry and information at Go The Distance. The other Fitness Event offered is the Check Off Challenge at Check Off. The goal is to complete every pool event offered during the year, completed in meets or practice.

SKY finishes Fourth in Postal

The 2009 One Hour Postal Final Results (individual and relay team) have been posted at http://www.usms.org/longdist/ldnats09/. SKY finished in 4th place Large Club category. While this is down three spots from last year (15 fewer entrants), it was still a great effort. Last years First Place finish probably fueled the effort by some other clubs! Next year?
